A More Transparent Approach to Maternity Care Billing
At Grace Women’s Health, we are updating how prenatal visits, labor, birth, and postpartum services are documented and billed. Beginning September 1, 2026, maternity care will move to a service-based billing process, meaning services are billed as they are provided rather than waiting until after delivery.
This update is part of the transition to new maternity care billing standards expected in 2027.
What Does This Mean for You?
Your care is not changing. Your billing process is.
You will continue to receive the same personalized, compassionate care from the Grace Women’s Health team. The primary change is when services are billed.
Instead of receiving one bill after delivery, you may receive bills throughout your pregnancy as services are provided.
You May Notice More Insurance EOBs
Because services will be billed as they are incurred, you may see an increase in Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) from your insurance company throughout your pregnancy.
An EOB is a statement from your insurance company that explains how a healthcare service was processed. An EOB is not necessarily a bill from Grace Women’s Health.
We encourage you to review your EOBs and contact our billing team if you have questions about a statement or your account.
When Does the New Process Apply?
If your first prenatal visit is on or after September 1, 2026:
Your prenatal, labor, birth, and postpartum services will follow the new billing process.
If your first prenatal visit was before September 1, 2026:
Your pregnancy will continue under the current billing process from start to finish.
Why Are We Making This Change?
This updated approach is designed to:
- Provide greater transparency into the cost of care
- Reflect services as they are actually provided
- Allow benefits to be applied throughout pregnancy
- Help patients better understand their financial responsibility before delivery
- Streamline billing and administrative processes
What You Can Expect
You may receive insurance EOBs and statements at different points throughout your pregnancy rather than receiving billing information primarily after delivery.
This does not change the care you receive or the relationship you have with your provider.
